Environment
Architecture and environment focus on human intervention affecting the environment both positively and negatively and the relationship od building with natural system and aims to facilitate students to create acceptable environmentally conscious and passive building design.
assignment 1
In assignment 1, we are required to measure and record the range of air temperature and its relative humidity of the chosen room located in our house. Then analysis data should be produced to determine the thermal comfort of that particular room. The solutions should be given after analyses of data to improve thermal comfort.

The thought of using a simple design amendment could really affect the thermal comfort of a room without using any non-renewable energy to cool down the temperature ( switching on air-con). After analysing the main factors that affect the thermal comfort of the room is wind direction and the amount of sun intensity thus, adjustable awnings and using low-E glass can reduce sun and heat intensity while centre pivoted casement window allow wind to flow in all directions.
assignment 2
For assignment 2, we are to discuss a topic with deep analysis then produce a literature review in a group of 6. Our team has chosen the topic of Green wall which we thought is a very effective passive design to implement in Malaysia that has a tropical climate all year long and Green planter box house is one of our reference studies.
This paper has the purpose of the exploration of effective green wall systems in the tropical climate through literature review in order to introduce green walls as a tool to improve the environment and biodiversity in the urban city. It showcases the different classification of the green wall systems and the beneficial impacts on the environment, economy and society in order to give people a clearer picture of how the green wall systems work. Additionally, a thermal performance review is done to ensure the understanding of the effectiveness of these green walls can adapt to a hot and humid climate to achieve thermal comfort. Personal insights and thoughts are also given to provide some suggestion of the suitability of implementing green walls in tropical climates.
