Design studio project
This studio forms the capstone project for the Bachelor of Science (Honours) in the Architecture program. Progressing from the previous studio, which focused on urban streets, it aims to empower the urban context through a comprehensive study of its people, place, and time. Hence, develop an architectural intervention that embodies sensitivity in the meditation between architecture and socio-cultural needs, the designs of internal spaces, and the demands of the external constraints.
The module is a design studio that emphasizes the idea of ‘place-making for the urban communities’. Students will undertake a studio-based exercise that deals with urban blocks within a dense urban environment. The two major parts of the studio are a) urban contextual study and b) architectural design development.
For Studio IV, it emphasizes 'Engaging environment and community '. We have gone to Pasar Bangi Lama and experienced the site to have a better understanding of the site context. The projects involve studies of precedents on community and food in architecture, from the first project of designing a food kiosk to the final project_ a community market, we are required to focus on the people themselves and how the architecture response to the context. In this semester, cluster typology is explored.
For Studio III, it emphasizes on 'experiencing space and space' in architecture. Spatial typologies and poetics in architecture are explored first then a suburban site is given to let students imply the typologies with the essence and history into design. This semester we are not able to have a site visit due to pandemic situations thus, all design is to encourage to implement the idea of Covid-19.
